White House Correspondents Dinner…..Democracy tastes like chicken

Put on your suit. Get your hair and nails done. We’re going to go put on a show. We’ll dazzle the world with all our razmataz. Hollywood will be there. Anybody who is anybody will be there. Kim Kardashian (I still think the name should be given to a species of monster in Star Wars) will be there. Maybe she can teach me to get rich by marrying and divorcing the right people. Spielberg and Clooney will be there. And Lindsey Lohan. All the greatest political minds….the best journalists in the land.

But then, as I learned on the cartoon series, Daria, why study a subject, when you can spend your time more productively by networking.

And Washington/Hollywood did network this weekend. This coterie of self-congratulation spent its time cracking jokes, but some of us aren’t fooled. We can see a committee of mutual admiration for what it is.

Rick Santorum was there. That doesn’t surprise me. Ron Paul wasn’t there. That doesn’t surprise me. According to Fox News (don’t ask me….they came up

The White House Correspondents Association was formed in 1914 as a protest to the rumor that Congress was going to limit the reporters that had access to the President. Presidents since Wilson have turned this to their advantage.

first on the Google search)  every President since Coolidge has attended these functions. That fails to surprise me, as well. The White House Correspondents Association was originally set up as a kind of union of reporters who were concerned that the government was getting too over-reaching in the way they were regulating press access to the President. But, like I learned from listening to Longshanks on Braveheart, “You must find the good in everything…when you are king.”

So the two industries, Press and Government, realized in the twenties that if they worked together, they could gain great wealth and great power. And, since the Government perforce enjoys its monopoly without opposition, and the Press was technically scattered across thousands of newspaper companies (the radio and movies were very new mediums, and TV was still twenty years away), it probably didn’t seem so dangerous to the people of the time.

But times are radically different, now.

When I was in American Government 101, the text-book listed the media as a fourth branch of government. And the bureaucracy as a fifth. Now, I don’t want to get into a debate about the accuracy of this….but if accredited textbooks are realizing this possibility, we should, as “informed” voters, be willing to discuss the implications of the government-media complex.

I don’t agree with everything that is said by right-wing radio pundits, but I think that one of the most brilliant speeches ever was Michael Savages speech from about 15 or so year ago about the subject.

Government Media Complex

Joseph Conrad wrote about it in The Heart of Darkness. In our times, it became the movie Apocalypse Now. We pretend to be so civilized, but if you look in our eyes, there is hate, fear, pain....and also hope.

Does anyone else remember the Vietnam War? I’ll grant you, I was very young at the time. But I was a very strange kid. I started watching and listening to the news when I was about three years old. I still very dimly remember seeing images from the last years of that war. I was too young to understand, but now, years later, I can see that war (which, I’ll grant, would have been extremely controversial even if the whole debate had been on the up-and-up) was largely lost because the media shaped the public will to oppose it. That demonstrates its power.

My argument is not whether the media was evil because of its stance on that war. Assuming that great power….a power that proved greater than the three branches of government……how much greater would it be in the hands of one of the branches of government.

“Is it true that force and right are necessarily on the same side in republican governments? May not the minor party possess such a superiority of pecuniary resources…or of secret succors from foreign powers, as will render it superior also in an appeal to the sword?…Nothing can be more chimerical than to imagine that in a trial of actual force victory may be calculated by the rules which prevail in a census of the inhabitants, or which determine the even of an election!”-Federalist 43. Madison.

I think this is the most brilliant idea ever! All of us bloggers could get together, form our own criminal/terrorist syndicate, and claim Atlantian or Martian citizenship! As per this guy’s precedence, we couldn’t be touched! Who’s in with me? Jeff? Bitter Clinger….? Anyone….?

I don’t know about this one. Smells a little of conspiracy theory. But it might be a good idea for all of us to do our due diligence on this one. I know Jeff and Bitter Clinger will be interested.

The Space Shuttle Enterprise: Last flight

When I was a kid, I was a geek. Heck….what am I talking about? I’m still a geek! Older, grumpier, balder. But I’m still a geek.

I was roughly ten years old when the space shuttle Columbia first took off. I had a toy Enterprise, the prototypical space shuttle. I played with that thing a lot. My parents were going broke at the time, so I didn’t get a lot of Star Wars toys. So the Space Shuttle got to ferry a lot of my childhood dreams to the imaginary stars.

The Shuttle was, to me, more than a machine. It was the symbol of what America was becoming. It was the realization of the promise of science fiction. The Age of the Future was now the present. In my mind, it will always be linked to Reagan, because he was the president when Columbia first was launched, and when the Challenger tragically exploded. I grew up, life became complicated, and I had a wife and kid to support. I worked like a dog, and sold my soul to the corporate devil in order to provide for them.

I can imagine the spirit of Lenin, smiling over the prospect of his nation leading the world to the stars, as America googles NFL draft picks....

Now, I wake up. The dream is over.

Yes, I gave up the dream of being an astronaut long ago. But, somewhere, buried deep in that place where childhood dreams don’t ever quite die (I hope) there was a still, small voice that said, “You don’t go up there, but your countrymen do. You will never touch the stars, but your son may. Some of the money you work so desperately hard for goes to pay for the Vision of Enlightenment. The Shuttle continues to launch.”

It is finished.

The Enterprise was flown on its last flight today. The Shuttle is designed to embark on a hundred missions. Discovery flew the most flights of any Shuttle. Thirty-nine. Not even half of the promise was kept.

Russia continues to fly missions to the International Space Station. Supposedly, we are the only Superpower, but they continue to explore space. We’re too busy having the Secret Service explore female anatomy. That’s more important, anyway.

One of my favorite T. V. series was Babylon 5. In one of my favorite scenes, Garibaldi (conservative radio icon Jerry Doyle), is discussing a similar topic with a friend. I think he tells it best. “The future ain’t what it used to be.”

What more can I say? Ray Bradbury had two books. Anthologies of his short stories. R is for Rocket. And another, S is for Space. In these stories, he spoke of the wonder, the joy, the glory, the hope….of reaching for the stars. We have traded our dreams for The Dreams of Our Fathers.

If Heaven’s not my home….then Lord, what will I do….?

Ron Paul is not finished yet

I would like to honor Ron Paul today.  He is the only one that inspired me to study more about the Constitution and the our Founding Fathers.   Here is short video about Ron Paul talking Constitution.

When you have public schools wanting to take history out you will have a problem.  My hats go off to Ron Paul for helping common people to understand history.

Here a bit of history about how Ron Paul can still win.

Thank you Ron Paul for all that you have done for this Country!

Ron Paul not valley of dry bones

Nothing is impossible for GodRon Paul has just as much a chance as for President as Romney.

Ezekiel 37:1-14

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit…and set me in the middle of valley, it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

I said, “O Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”

Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!…I will make breathe enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin. I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”

So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.

Then he said to me, “Prophecy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live.” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet-a vast army.

Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: O my people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back….Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.”

Ron Paul will not bow to the media

Daniel 3:16-18 says:  Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before in this matter.  If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king.  But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Ron Paul is very humble man of God.

Here a story of Veggie Tales

Ron Paul stands up for what he believes in

The media is like bunny in this song

Here is Gaither song

For far too long, America has been bowing before the idol of Molech. The god of gold. The god of money. Easy, false profits. Corporate America has combined with Washington D. C. Together, they have erected their monuments to their false gods, and those false gods have seemed to reward them with quick riches, immense power, and everything that goes with that.

Its time that we remembered what is important. God. Jesus Christ. Family. Liberty. Our Constitution. Fulfilling our promises. Serving each other, instead of only serving ourselves. Lets do the right thing, this time around. Instead of mindlessly voting for the lesser of two evils, as we have done for the last 24 years, lets vote for someone who stands for the same things we do. Who believes the same things we do. And who votes for the things they believe. This time around, let’s vote for Ron Paul.

Holocaust remembrance day

Today is Holocaust remembrance day. Sixty seven years ago today, the Jewish Prisoners were liberated from Auschwitz.

I thought about putting in a picture, but they’re just too horrible. Maybe I should, still, in the hope of shocking people back into waking back up. But, for now, I won’t.

This ones gotta be quick. I’m taking my wife out on a date. But I have to give a few minutes to remember those who died so that the wifer and I could go on this date.

I often worry about what my country is turning into. There is a scene from Masada that explains my feelings about what America is becoming.

Masada 13

I must get going. But I wish I could wake America up. I wish I could make a rallying cry to those that love Christ, to those that love liberty. We’ve got to stop thinking of people as matters of convenience. We’ve got to stop thinking of people as merely useful idiots that we can use on our personal climb to power.

We’ve got to start remembering….life is sacred. All the things that we believed in, that we fought so hard for and died for…..if we let them go, then we have fought and died in vain…..

Never forget! Never forget! This is not the America we fought for….but She is there….if we will turn back to our God, and turn back to our founding principles.

Fighting the Federal Leviathan

Ted Nugent is in the news. I guess he made some comments that are getting the Secret Service motivated to investigate him. He said at an NRA meeting that he would probably be “dead or in jail by this time next year” if Obama is reelected. Personally, I take back all the negative things I’ve said about the Secret Service….if they still have the energy to investigate this guy after all their sex-romps in Latin America, then they are truly dedicated! But then….for all we know, their investigation may simply be a million dollar grant to spend three weeks in the bunny ranch while they watch Ted Nugent videos….

Sometimes I’m afraid that I’ve been teleported to Bizzaro World. Superman is robbing banks while Lex Luthor is trying to protect the innocent. This whole world seems backward. Ron Paul supports the Constitution and Christian values, so we vote for the people who are destroying our Constitution and trying to undermine Christianity: but I won’t name any names here….I’m kind of getting tired of fighting the good fight.

Ron Paul’s money bomb didn’t make the money he said he needed. I don’t know what that means, because the media is so eager to be rid of him. Anything he does is a sign that he’s about to bow out. I wonder if the Sanhedrin had the same attitude about Christ. “He raised Lazarus from the dead…..that means that His power must be weakening…if He were all that powerful, He’d have healed Lazarus before he even died!” Bizzaro World

has been around for a long, long time…..

My good friend Jeff sent a comment on how he has been feeling about things. It’s where I’ve stolen the title to this post (see….I’m already adapting to the Bizarro lifestyle….)

First off, he talks about the song, Uprising, by Muse. I personally know nothing about the group or the song, but I’m listening to it now, and the words are frighteningly similar to what is going on in my head as I type.

The imagery from the video reminds me of the dystopic moods of these last days. I love the Beltane in it, the purification through fire of all the degradation of the past. And the Vampire-teddy bears that rise up from the ground. The child-like qualities inside of us rising up to fight the Screwtape inspired nothingness that pretends to be “adult.”

Hopefully this won’t upset the wifer.

“Here’s to you Mr. Jefferson” Awesome! by Mike Church

When I was still young and idealistic, I used to put together mixed tapes. They weren’t usually tapes of romantic songs (though there were a few of them mixed in here and there). I didn’t date until I was 25 (no mystery to anyone that follows this blog….maybe if I’d been a Secret Service Agent). The more….interesting of these tapes I called schizophrenic tapes. The beginning of one of these had a scream edited in, followed immediately by Genesis’ Land of Confusion. I thought about putting that song in, but I think I’ll post this version instead. First of all, this one doesn’t dishonor Reagan. And second of all…I think all the Japanimation in this video really hits home (I’m going to watch it again as I post, to make sure there’s nothing too inappropriate in it….)

Disturbed-Land of Confusion

Often over the last forty years, I’ve felt as though I was living in the Last Days…if not of the world, at least of our freedoms. And sometimes I had apocolyptic visions like those in the above video. And sometimes, in my minds eye I’d just see Jesus….monumental, huge…like the statue over Rio….only with grief in His wonderful face. Grief for all the horrible things we’ve done. Grief for betraying Him. For taking a beautiful world He meant us to enjoy, and turning it into a cesspool instead. It totally blows my mind that He would die for people like us. I guarantee, if I were Jesus, you wouldn’t see me on the Cross…..
