Find happiness when you seek the Lord

People seek happiness in other people, jobs, money, the government and other worldly things.  The only true happiness is in Jesus.  We have to choose to be happy everyday.  Psalm 37:4 (NIV) says “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”  There is song called “Happiness is the Lord” and real joy is only found in Jesus.

There is another song  about choosing to be happy.  Are we going to be happy today?  I know I will and choose to praise Jesus.

Happy Father’s Day to those in heaven

My dad died at young age, he was only 59.  Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty passed away at 57.  One of my co workers husband passed away last Friday at 55.  I do not know why these happen to fathers at such a young age, but God knows why.  1 John 3:20 (NIV) says: For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.  I just hope that I can make my Heavenly Father as proud as I made my earthly Father.  I would like to honor my dad and Jesus by song Amy Grant written “My Father’s Eyes“.

If you do not have a dad, honor Jesus your Heavenly Father today.

Psalm 27: 10 (NIV) Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.

Another Father Days’ Thought

This is for Bitter Clinger, Jeff, and anyone else that had abusive fathers. This song came out when I was trying to reconcile with my father. He never said these things to me, but the song describes how I felt perfectly. Nowadays, I don’t really feel much of anything about it all. I simply survive each day. And try to live in a way that my son won’t ever feel that way.

Genesis No Son of Mine

This song reflects the relation between a sad broken man, and a God that, He hopes, loves him….I first heard it on my first Christmas Eve in my current position. Bitter Clinger and Jeff both can appreciate….a very tired man, beat up by the job, beat up by the holiday that everyone else gets to enjoy, but we barely do….and this song was on the radio just as I pulled in the garage to see my little (two years old, at the time) son…..

Creflo Dollar family needs prayer

Creflo Dollar is/was a successful televangelist who was recently accused of abusing his daughter. He is one of the wifer’s favorites.  I don’t know the truth of the story. Without that, I can’t comment on who is right or wrong. But I can tell you this, someone is guilty of folly…..

Father’s Day 2012 is coming up, and I (Duncan Mcshame,  the negative husband), have no idea of what I want for F Day. The wifer has already gotten me  a good book, any way (the last one written by Billy Graham) and so her bases are covered.

Creflo Dollar had some trouble as a father last Friday. Here is his version of events.

In my opinion the daughters are in rebellion and we need to be praying for his daughters.  We need to pray for Creflo and Taffi Dollar as they raise their teenage daughters.

Recently, Bitter Clinger gave some pretty epic commentary about the Consumption Craze of our present culture.

Anyhow, my point is, that like other silly people, I sometimes daydream about the next gift. And usually it is something materialistic. But as I get older, “The gold loses its luster, the jewels cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison. All that is left, is a father’s love for his child.”

Conan the Barbarian-King Osric

Like Solomon, the only gift I really want is wisdom….

Proverbs 6:1-35 (NIV)  are warnings against folly

1 My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, 2  if you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth, 3 then do this, my son, to free yourself, since you have fallen in to your neighbor’s hands: Go and humble yourself; press your plea with your neighbor!  4 Allow no sleep to your eyes, no slumber to your eyelids, 5 Free yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler. 6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wide! 7 It has no command, no overseer or ruler, 8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.  9 How long will you lie there, you sluggard?  When will you get up from your sleep? 10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest – 11 and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man.  12 A scoundrel and villain, who goes about a corrupt mouth, 13 who winks with his eye, signals with his feet and motions with his fingers, 14 who plots evil with deceit in his heart – he always stirs up dissension.  15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant; he will suddenly be destroyed – without remedy.  16 There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him:  17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, 18 hands  that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.  20 My son keep your father’s commands and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.  21 Bind them upon your heart forever, fasten them around your neck.  22 When you walk, they will guide you, when you sleep, they will watch over; when you awake, they will speak to you.  23 For these commands, are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the correction of discipline are the way to life, 24 keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of the wayward wife.  25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes, 26 for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread, and the adulteress preys upon your very life.  27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned? 28 Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched? 29 So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.  30 Men do not despise a thief is he steal to satisfy his hunger when he is starving.  31 Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold, though it costs him all the wealth of his house.  32 But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself.  33 Blows and disgrace are his lot, and his shame will never be wiped away; 34 for jealousy arouses a husband’s fury, and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.  35 He will not accept any compensation; he will refuse the bribe, however great it is.

We all need to be more humble and do what is right according to the Lord.

Marriage is worth fighting for

Marriage should be forever.  People tend to get divorced for petty reasons.

I am not saying that a person being abused should not get out, but other than extreme cases marriage should be forever.  Marriage should contain honesty, trust, and commitment.  Marriage should have Jesus first.  Proverbs 5  is about adultery. In today’s time, it is common for wives to commit adultery too; so to me this passage is for anyone who is considering adultery not to do it.

Proverbs 5:1-23 is warning us against adultery.

1 My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight, 2 that you may maintain discretion and your lips, may  preserve knowledge.  3 For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; 4 but in the end she is bitter as gall, shard as a double – edged sword.  5 Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave.  6 She gives no thought to the way of life; her paths are crooked, but she knows it not.  7 Now, then, my sons, listen to me; do not turn aside from what I say.  8 Keep to a path far from her, do go near the door of her house, 9 lest you give your best strength to others and your years to one who is cruel, 10 lest strangers fest on your wealth and your toil enrich another man’s house.  11 At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent.  12 You will say, “How I hated discipline!  How my heart spurned correction!  13 I would not obey my teachers or listen to my instructors.  14 I have come to the brink of utter ruin in the midst of the whole assembly.”  15 Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well.  16 Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares?  17 Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers.  18 May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.  19 A loving doe, a graceful deer – may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated, my son, by her love.  20 Why be captivated, my son, by an adulteress?  Why embrace the bosom of another man’s wife?  21 For a man’s ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all his paths.  22 The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him; the cords of his sin hold him fast.  23 He will die for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.

I highly respect Mark Gungor, he does marriage seminars called laugh your way to better marriage.  I would recommend this site to any married couple: it is very helpful.

I also love the movie Fireproof, directed by Alex Kendrick, for married couples to watch.  This movie delivers a good solid biblical message to fireproof your marriage.  Warren Barfield wrote a song for this movie Love is not a Fight, here is the video.

Wisdom of God, Wrath of God, Wrath of the Titan: Consequences of defying God

Titans, in Greek Mythology, were powerful Beings that even gods could barely contend with.  The ship, Titanic, was named for these Beings that were equal with gods.  Everyone thought that the Titanic was indestructible.  Who knows but that the Titanic was cursed by the name.  God does not like to be mocked, he does not like anyone to be over him.  I am not saying that he caused all those people to die, but we have to be careful not to put any gods before our God.

If men were angels, no government would be necessary.  If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls in government would be necessary.  In framing government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the government; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.  Fed. 51 Madison

Proverbs 4:1 – 27 (NIV): Wisdom is Supreme

1 Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.  2 I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.  3 When I was a boy in my father’s house, still tender, and only child of my mother, 4 he taught me and said, ” Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live.  5 Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.  6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over.  7 Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom.  Though it cost all you have, get understanding.  8 Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.  9 She will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendor.  10 Listen my son accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.  11 I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.  12 When you walk your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.  13 Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.  14 Do not set foot on path of the wicked or walk in the way of evil men.  15 Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.  16 For they cannot sleep till they do evil; they are robbed of slumber till they make someone fall.  17 They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.  18 The path of righteous is like the first gleam dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of the day, 19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;  they do not know what makes them stumble.  20 My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words.  21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.  23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.  24 Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.  25 Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.  26 Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.  27 Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

Petra wrote song Judas’ kiss, the song talks about how people disobey and ignore God.

Join God’s Army

Image

Today, May 19, 2012, is Armed Forces Day;  a day that honors the military forces.  We would like to say thank you for all the men and women who died and gave their time for our country.  We are praying for you and your families.   Thank for making our Nation free.

Here is Gaither song Let Freedom Ring:

We would also like to say thank you Jesus for giving his life.  If you are not in God‘s army we would like to personally invite in his army.  Ephesians 6:10-18 says to put on full armor of God:  Finally, be strong in the Lord and his mighty power.  Put on full armor of God so that you can stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore put on full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with you feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  And pray in the Spirit on all occasions, with all kinds of prayers and requests.  With this in mind, he be alert and always keep praying for all the saints.

We are God’s Army; Are you?

As I’ve stated in the “about” page for noxforchristmas, I’m often both afraid, and hoping, that these are the last days. This guy does a great job of portraying that hope and fear, without the hysterics that some folks go into (myself, alas, included)
