Ron Paul and boarder protection. We need angels watching over us, because we sure aren’t watching….

President’s Day is tomorrow. The American people are seeking great leadership, but most of them are growing apathetic to the whole process. Since Reagan, I don’t really think that there’s been many people who really inspire many of us with excitement. Donald Trump started to throw his hat in the ring, but I guess it was more fun to do Celebrity Apprentice. Nixon nearly destroyed the American people’s faith in the presidency. And, to be honest, even after Reagan repaired some of the damage, I’m beginning to wonder if we shouldn’t just amend the Constitution, elect a Politburo, and resign ourselves to despotism and slavery. But I suppose all this wallowing in misery isn’t really doing anyone any good. So I guess I’ll continue on with my series about the five reasons Ron Paul can save America. And that means I need to write the promised posts about how he will do a better job of defending our boarders than the other candidates would do.

1. Physically secure our borders and coastlines

The gates of your land are opened wide to your enemies; Fire consumes your gate bars. Draw for yourself water for the siege! Strengthen your fortifications! Nahum 3; 13-14

Please don’t think that I’m suggesting that we build a fence between us and Mexico. If the Great Wall of China didn’t work to keep out the Mongolian hordes of Genghis Khan, what makes us think that a flimsy concrete fence could keep out airplanes and determined modern vehicular weaponry? But what I do think is that we could do a better job of defending our borders if the troops were here in the United States defending us from terrorists, instead of being forced to fight shadow wars with opium drug lords and glorified goat-herds on badly defined borders of nations that would rather be killing each other than us.

Ron Paul: we can’t defend Mexican border while troops are on Afghanistan/Pakistan border

2. Enforce visa rules

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. – Thomas Jefferson

Several of the 9/11 terrorists had expired visas. If there had been a little better enforcement, there is at least a chance that 9/11 could have been prevented. I realize that this might mean some reallocation of law enforcement. I’m not saying that it would be easy. And I absolutely understand that we don’t want to become an isolationist society where nobody is allowed in or out. Nor do I want a police state where everyone must show their papers if they are touring around America. I sometimes feel that the terrorists actually won. Sometimes I think that they succeeded in transforming our free country into the dystopic police state described in 1984. But we have to be both optimistic as well as vigilant. What if we fired a few TSA agents, and used those resources to hire police to enforce the laws that are on the books. I don’t know that we’d need stronger laws…..just enforce the ones that are already on the books. (And for those concerned about the fired TSA agents….they could possibly apply for the open police positions…..I know defending our borders is not as fun as groping grandma, but in this bad economy, we all have to make sacrifices!)

3. The Dream Act….in your dreams! Why give amnesty to those who don’t respect the law, when we have so many that have tried to enter legally?

There is no nation on earth powerful enough to accomplish our overthrow. Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter. From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence. I must confess that I do apprehend some danger. I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men and become the instruments of their own undoing.- Daniel Webster

I’ve documented it before, so I won’t rehash it again. Amnesty is largely just a power ploy by the powers that be to acquire mass votes. No, I don’t want black helicopters to swoop in and round-up the illegals….but neither do I want their ill-gotten votes bolstering the politicians that would round me up….

And I’ll finish this post with this video.

Ron Paul cured my apathy.
